In the wake of the Croatian War of Independence and the country’s separation from Yugoslavia in 1991, economic hardship and social upheaval left countless buildings abandoned — nowhere more visibly than in the Sisak-Moslavina and Split-Dalmatia counties. Some may have fled the war, others sought financial security abroad, and many saw little use in holding onto what they had. Whatever the reason, entire homes and their contents now sit idle, lost without purpose.
In a one-mile stretch of road, we see what remains of the lives left behind.
